Who We Are

A safari company run by the people who actually deliver your trip

Kingse Safaris is a boutique, owner-operated safari company designing tailor-made private journeys across East and Southern Africa. You'll work directly with Jackson and Samara from your first enquiry through to travel day. No call centres, no booking agents, no third parties. We design it, we guide it, we deliver it.

Jackson Potter
Founder & Safari Designer

Australian-born, East Africa-based. Jackson designs every itinerary personally and is hands-on from your first enquiry to wheels-up. He knows the lodges, the routes, and the guides because he's worked with them all firsthand.

Peter Nanyaro
Co-Founder, Lead Guide & Operations Manager

Born and raised in northern Tanzania, Peter has spent over a decade guiding through the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Tarangire. He doesn't just show you wildlife. He reads the bush and puts you in the right place at the right time.

Samara Imhoff
Head of Operations & Client Experience

Samara runs the client side of Kingse, from your first enquiry through to the day you fly home. She looks after the planning detail, the bookings, and every question along the way, so there's always a real person who knows your trip inside out. Most guests deal with both Samara and Jackson.

Peter isn't a hired driver. He co-founded Kingse. He's guided hundreds of safaris across the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Tarangire. When he's leading your trip, he's not clocking in for a shift. He's doing what he built the company to do.

Where We Operate

Distinct destinations across East and Southern Africa, each with its own character

Tanzania
Serengeti · Ngorongoro · Tarangire · Ruaha · Katavi

The heart of East African safari. From the classic northern circuit to the remote southern and western wilderness, Tanzania offers the most diverse wildlife experience on the continent.

Explore Tanzania ↓
Kenya
Masai Mara · Amboseli · Samburu · Laikipia

Where the safari was born. The Masai Mara catches the Great Migration from July, Amboseli frames elephants against Kilimanjaro, and the northern reserves hold species you won't see anywhere else.

Explore Kenya ↓
Zanzibar & Coast
Stone Town · East Coast Beaches · Spice Islands

The natural end to any East African safari. White sand, warm Indian Ocean, Swahili culture, and some of the continent's finest beach resorts.

Explore Zanzibar ↓
Uganda
Bwindi · Queen Elizabeth NP · Murchison Falls

The Pearl of Africa. Gorilla trekking in the misty forests of Bwindi, tree-climbing lions in Ishasha, and the thundering Murchison Falls.

Explore Uganda ↓
Rwanda
Volcanoes NP · Nyungwe · Akagera · Kigali

Compact, well-connected, and beautifully maintained. Gorilla trekking in the Virungas, chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe, and savanna game drives in Akagera.

Explore Rwanda ↓
Namibia
Sossusvlei · Etosha · Damaraland · Skeleton Coast

Wide-open wilderness with almost no one in it. Rust-red dunes at Sossusvlei, a salt pan you can see from space at Etosha, and desert-adapted elephants in the granite country of Damaraland.

Explore Namibia ↓
Botswana
Okavango Delta · Chobe · Kalahari · Makgadikgadi

Low volumes, high wilderness. The Okavango is a maze of water channels you explore by mokoro, Chobe holds the largest elephant herds on earth, and the Kalahari pans deliver the opposite extreme.

Explore Botswana ↓
Victoria Falls
Zimbabwe Side · Zambezi River

The Smoke That Thunders. A 2–3 night extension that pairs naturally with a Tanzania safari.

Explore Victoria Falls ↓

Northern Circuit

Serengeti · Ngorongoro Crater · Tarangire · Lake Manyara

The classic circuit. Big cats in the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater's natural arena, and Tarangire's baobab-studded elephant country. This is where most safaris begin, and where first-timers fall for East Africa.

Southern Tanzania

Ruaha · Nyerere (Selous)

Remote, raw, and rarely crowded. Ruaha is Tanzania's largest park, vast, untouched, and rich with predators. Nyerere offers boat safaris along the Rufiji River. For repeat visitors or those who want real wilderness.

Western Tanzania

Katavi · Mahale Mountains

Tanzania's wild frontier. Katavi's floodplains draw massive herds in the dry season, while Mahale offers chimpanzee trekking on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, one of Africa's most exclusive experiences.

Zanzibar & The Coast

Stone Town · Nungwi · Kendwa · Paje · Mafia Island · Mnemba Atoll

White sand beaches, warm Indian Ocean, and centuries of Swahili culture. Stone Town is a UNESCO World Heritage maze of spice markets and carved doorways. The east coast offers world-class kite surfing and pristine reefs. Works as a standalone escape or the perfect wind-down after time in the bush. Most guests add 3-4 nights at the end of a safari.

Uganda

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest · Queen Elizabeth NP · Murchison Falls · Kibale Forest

The Pearl of Africa. Gorilla trekking in the misty forests of Bwindi, tree-climbing lions in Ishasha, and the thundering Murchison Falls. Uganda combines primates and traditional game viewing like nowhere else. Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest rounds out the primate experience. Pairs well with Rwanda or as a standalone 7-10 day itinerary.

Rwanda

Volcanoes NP · Nyungwe Forest · Akagera NP · Kigali

Compact, well-connected, and beautifully maintained. Gorilla trekking in the Virungas, chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe's canopy forest, and savanna game drives in Akagera, all within short drives of Kigali. Rwanda is the most accessible gorilla destination and combines well with Tanzania or Uganda for a multi-country trip.

Victoria Falls

Zimbabwe Side · Zambezi River · Livingstone

The Smoke That Thunders. A 2-3 night extension that pairs naturally with a Tanzania safari. Walk the falls path on the Zimbabwe side for the most dramatic views, cruise the Zambezi at sunset, or fly over the spray by helicopter. Bungee jumping, white water rafting, and elephant-back safaris are also on the menu for the adventurous.

Masai Mara

Mara Triangle · Mara River · Private Conservancies

The northern end of the Serengeti ecosystem, and one of the finest stretches of big-cat country anywhere. From July to October the Great Migration pours across the Mara River. The private conservancies on the fringe add walking, night drives and far fewer vehicles.

Amboseli

Big Tuskers · Mount Kilimanjaro

Big herds of elephant framed against the snows of Kilimanjaro, the most photographed backdrop in East Africa. Amboseli's open pans make for reliable elephant viewing on clear mornings, often with the mountain in full view.

Samburu & Laikipia

Northern Frontier · Conservancies

The dry north holds species you won't see further south, reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, gerenuk and beisa oryx. Laikipia's private conservancies pioneered community conservation and offer walking, horseback and night drives alongside the game.

Sossusvlei & the Namib

Big Daddy · Dune 45 · Dead Vlei

The oldest desert on earth, and its 300-metre red dunes change colour by the hour. Be inside the gate before sunrise to climb Big Daddy or walk out to Dead Vlei, a white clay pan studded with 900-year-old blackened trees.

Etosha

Salt Pan · Floodlit Waterholes · Big Five

A salt pan so vast you can see it from space, ringed by waterholes where the game comes to you. The floodlit waterhole at Okaukuejo is one of the best places in Africa to watch black rhino after dark.

Damaraland

Desert Elephants · Twyfelfontein · Skeleton Coast

Granite mountains, dry riverbeds and desert-adapted elephants that walk for miles between waterholes. Twyfelfontein's rock engravings are thousands of years old, and the Skeleton Coast lies just beyond for those who want the Atlantic's strangest shoreline.

Okavango Delta

Mokoro Safaris · Water Channels · Wild Dog

A river that never reaches the sea, fanning out into a maze of channels and islands the size of a small country. You explore it by mokoro, the traditional dugout canoe, gliding past elephant and lechwe. One of the last strongholds of the African wild dog.

Chobe

Elephant Capital · River Cruises · Savuti

The largest elephant population on earth gathers along the Chobe riverfront in the dry season, often a hundred at a time. Game drives and boat safaris run side by side here, and Kasane sits just ninety minutes from Victoria Falls.

Kalahari & Makgadikgadi

Salt Pans · Meerkats · Star Beds

The largest salt-pan network on the planet, blinding white and dead flat to the horizon. Habituated meerkats that climb up for a better view, black-maned Kalahari lions, and a quad-bike ride out to a star-bed sleep-out under the clearest skies in Africa.

When to Go

East Africa has a season for every kind of traveller. Here's what to expect, month by month.

July – October (Peak)

Dry Season

The classic safari season. Grass is short, wildlife concentrates around water, and the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti are at their most dramatic. Cooler mornings, warm days, barely a cloud.

November – March (Green Season)

Short Rains + Dry

The Serengeti calves in Ndutu (Jan–March) — one of the most spectacular wildlife events on earth. Fewer crowds, lower rates, and the landscape is lush and green after the short rains.

April – May (Long Rains)

Green Season

The quietest time of year. Some remote camps close, but Southern Tanzania and the Selous stay excellent. Pristine conditions, very few visitors, and rates drop significantly.

June (Transition)

Start of Dry

The rains ease and wildlife disperses after good grazing. A shoulder month with great value — conditions improving rapidly toward peak season. Game viewing is already excellent.

July – September (Mara Crossings)

Peak Migration

The famous river crossings at Kogatende in Northern Serengeti. Hundreds of thousands of wildebeest cross the crocodile-filled Mara — the most iconic safari event in the world.

January – March (Calving)

Southern Serengeti

The calving season at Ndutu is extraordinary. Up to 500,000 calves born in 3 weeks, attracting every predator in the ecosystem. A wildlife spectacle rivalling the crossings.

June (Western Corridor)

Grumeti River

The herd reaches the Grumeti River in the Western Corridor. Massive crocodiles and dramatic crossings — less visited than the north but just as spectacular.

October – December (Return South)

Transition

The herd turns south following the short rains. Tanzania's central Serengeti comes alive as millions of animals pass through. Often overlooked — and completely uncrowded.

April – May (Central Serengeti)

Long Rains Migration

The herd moves through the central Serengeti toward the Western Corridor. Green, lush, and almost no other vehicles. For those who want the migration without the crowds.

June – October (Peak)

Dry Season

The best beach weather. Clear skies, calm seas, and consistent temperatures around 26–28°C. Ideal for snorkelling, diving, and dhow cruises off the spice islands.

December – March (Hot Season)

Warm & Mostly Dry

Warmest months with occasional showers. The sea is glassy and snorkelling visibility is excellent. Combine with safari in Northern Tanzania or Selous for the perfect 2-week trip.

November (Short Rains)

Shoulder Season

Brief afternoon showers with plenty of sunshine. A great value month — resorts are quieter and the island is incredibly lush. Whale sharks are sometimes spotted offshore.

April – May (Long Rains)

Low Season

The heaviest rains. Most travellers avoid this period, but it's worth knowing — Stone Town, the spice farms, and the north coast can still be enjoyed between showers at very low rates.

June – September (Best Conditions)

Dry Season

The most comfortable months for gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda. Trails are dry, the forest is clear, and permits are easier to plan around. Both Bwindi and Volcanoes National Park at their best.

December – February (Short Dry)

Great Trekking

A second peak season. Excellent visibility in the forest, good trail conditions, and often some of the best gorilla encounters of the year — families move into more accessible terrain.

March – May (Long Rains)

Quiet Season

The forest is extraordinarily lush and the gorillas move to lower elevations where trekking is easier. Far fewer tourists — just you, your guide, and the gorillas. Very special.

July – October (Peak)

Dry Season

The Masai Mara in peak season — arguably the finest game viewing in Africa. Wildebeest crossings from August, lion prides, cheetahs, and vast horizons of golden savanna.

January – March (Calving)

Short Dry Season

Excellent game viewing with fewer visitors. The Mara is dry and wildlife concentrates around rivers. Amboseli and Samburu are outstanding in these months.

November – December (Short Rains)

Green Season

Light rains bring lush grass and migrating birds. A beautiful time in the Mara — and one of the best months for Amboseli with Kilimanjaro clear on the horizon.

April – June (Long Rains)

Low Season

The Mara gets heavy rain but Laikipia and Samburu stay dry and excellent. Very few visitors, dramatically lower rates, and some of Kenya's most dramatic landscapes after the rains.

May – October (Peak)

Dry Season

The prime window. Cool mornings, dry days, and wildlife stacked around Etosha's waterholes. Late May and early June are the value sweet spot before the peak crowds arrive.

September (Best Overall)

Peak Dry

The standout month. Game packed around the waterholes, warm clear days, and the dunes at their most photogenic. The one to book if you only go once.

November – April (Green)

Green Season

The rains bring the desert to life. Lush landscapes, newborn game, peak birding, and the lowest rates of the year. A completely different Namibia.

December – February

Lowest Rates

The greenest, quietest months with the best value of all. Hot in the afternoons, but the light is dramatic and the desert is at its most alive.

May – October (Peak)

Dry Season

The Okavango flood arrives just as the land dries out, so the wildlife concentrates on the water. Cool, dry, and the best game viewing of the year.

July – August

Peak Season

Peak flood and peak game, the classic Botswana window. Premium rates and the camps fill early, so book well ahead for these months.

November – April (Green)

Green Season

The rains bring calving, dramatic skies and the year's best birding, at the lowest rates. The Kalahari comes alive after the first storms.

March – April

Green Sweet Spot

The rains taper off, the bush stays green and the crowds are gone. Excellent value with strong game viewing still on offer.

January – March & June – October (Best)

Dry Seasons

The two best windows for climbing Kilimanjaro. Clear skies, stable temperatures, and the best summit success rates. January–March is slightly warmer; July–October has the clearest views.

November – December (Short Rains)

Shoulder Season

Light rain on the lower slopes but the summit often stays clear. A quieter time on the mountain with good success rates on the longer routes like Lemosho.

April – May (Long Rains)

Not Recommended

The heaviest rains on Kilimanjaro. Trails are muddy, views obscured, and summit success rates drop. Most operators recommend against climbing during this period.

A Day on Safari

What a typical day in the bush looks like

5:30 AM
Wake-Up Call

Hot coffee or tea delivered to your tent. The bush is waking up, and so are the predators.

6:00 AM
Morning Game Drive

The best light, the coolest air, and the most active wildlife. This is the golden hour of safari.

10:00 AM
Bush Brunch

A full breakfast under an acacia tree, or back at camp. Pete knows the best spots.

12:00 PM
Rest & Recharge

Pool, book, nap, or just sit with the sounds of the bush. The animals rest too.

3:30 PM
Afternoon Drive

The heat breaks, the light softens, and the bush comes alive again. Predators start to stir.

6:00 PM
Sundowners

Cold drink in hand, watching the African sun drop below the horizon. This is the moment.

Everyone should be so lucky to have someone like Peter guide them through Tanzania. His 20+ years of experience mean he can predict animal behaviour, knows where to go and where to stop, and how to position the vehicle for the best views.

Travel That Gives Back

Your trip directly supports the people and places that make it possible

🏫
Local Guides, Local Jobs

Peter and our guides are Tanzanian-born and community-raised. Every safari directly supports local employment, from drivers and cooks to camp staff. No outsourced labour, no imported guides.

🌍
Community Visits

We partner with locally-run cultural tourism projects. When you visit a Maasai boma or a local school, the income goes directly to the community, not through a tour operator middleman.

🐘
Conservation Through Tourism

Every park fee and concession charge funds wildlife conservation and anti-poaching efforts. By choosing a responsible operator, your trip contributes to protecting these ecosystems for the long term.
