Welcome to Rwanda! Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, a friendly Kingse Safaris representative will warmly greet you and transfer you to your comfortable hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you might choose to explore the vibrant city of Kigali — its markets, cafes, and charming streets — or simply unwind and soak in the new surroundings. Your guide will be there to offer restaurant suggestions for dinner or help you plan your evening. This first day gently eases you into the heart of Rwanda, setting the tone for an unforgettable adventure ahead.
Today you’ll visit the Nyamata Church Memorial, a solemn and deeply moving place honouring the thousands who lost their lives during the 1994 genocide. It’s a powerful reminder of Rwanda’s history and resilience. Then, journey to Reconciliation Village, where survivors and former perpetrators now live side by side in hope and healing. Hear inspiring stories of forgiveness, witness local crafts like basket weaving, learn about traditional banana beer brewing, and enjoy a joyful cultural dance performance. Returning to Kigali, you’ll reflect on the day’s emotional experiences and connect with Rwanda’s spirit of unity.
Start your morning at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where you’ll deepen your understanding of Rwanda’s tragic past and remarkable recovery. The memorial offers a thoughtful space for reflection, learning, and remembrance. After this meaningful visit, set off on a scenic drive north to Ruhengeri, also known as Musanze, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park and your base for gorilla trekking. Along the way, admire Rwanda’s rolling hills, tea plantations, and the breathtaking Virunga Volcanoes in the distance. Arrive at your lodge, where you can relax and prepare for tomorrow’s extraordinary adventure.
This morning you get the experience of a lifetime — gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. After a thorough briefing at Kinigi Trekking Station, embark on a guided hike through dense forest with expert trackers, searching for the habituated gorilla families. The trek can be physically challenging but incredibly rewarding. Once you find the gorillas, spend up to an hour quietly observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat — a truly magical encounter that leaves a lasting imprint on your heart. Return to your lodge for lunch and enjoy a relaxing afternoon reflecting on the day’s wonder.
On your final day, visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, an inspiring conservation centre dedicated to protecting mountain gorillas and educating visitors. Learn about Dian Fossey’s groundbreaking work and the ongoing efforts to safeguard these incredible animals. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet a local family, hear their stories of resilience and everyday life in Rwanda, and gain deeper insight into the culture and community. After a shared lunch, you’ll be transferred to Kigali International Airport, carrying memories of Rwanda’s beauty, strength, and spirit with you on your onward journey.
