Day 1: Arrive in Kigali

Welcome to Rwanda! Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, a Kingse Safaris representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you may have a chance to explore the city or simply relax.

Dinner is on your own, with suggestions available from your guide.

Day 2: Nyamata Memorial & Reconciliation Village
Nyamata Memorial & Reconciliation Village

Visit the Nyamata Church Memorial, a deeply moving site where thousands perished during the 1994 genocide. Then continue to Reconciliation Village, where victims and perpetrators of the genocide now live side by side. You’ll hear their stories, learn about local crafts like basket weaving, see how banana beer is made, and enjoy a cultural dance performance. Return to Kigali for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Kigali Genocide Memorial & Drive to Ruhengeri
Kigali Genocide Memorial & Drive to Ruhengeri

Spend the morning at the Kigali Genocide Memorial to deepen your understanding of Rwanda’s past and its powerful story of recovery. After lunch (on your own), travel north to Ruhengeri, the base for gorilla trekking. Take in views of Rwanda’s stunning scenery and the distant Virunga Volcanoes along the way. Arrive at your lodge and relax for the evening.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Start early for your gorilla trekking adventure. After a briefing at the Kinigi Trekking Station, head into the forest with guides and trackers to find one of the habituated gorilla families. The trek can take 2–4 hours and may be physically demanding, but the encounter is truly magical. Spend up to one hour observing these majestic primates in their natural habitat. Return to your lodge for lunch and a well-earned rest. The remainder of the day is at your leisure.

Visit the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund Campus & Departure

Visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, a center for conservation education and research. Learn about Dian Fossey’s legacy and the efforts to protect mountain gorillas. You’ll also visit a local family to hear stories of Rwandan life and recovery. After lunch, transfer to Kigali International Airport for your onward flight to Nairobi or back home.

The Rwanda Safari Package includes airport transfers, four nights of lodging, most meals, guided gorilla trekking, excursions to cultural villages, park entry fees, permits, and the help of a knowledgeable local guide.

The mountain gorilla trekking typically takes 2 to 4 hours and goes through rugged, wooded areas. It’s not too hard, and anyone who is in decent shape can do it. The one-hour gorilla encounter makes it worth the effort.

Yes, you need permission to go mountain gorilla trekking; however, the cost is already included in the safari package. Before the journey, your guide will take care of all the permission arrangements.
